Adam started with Progress in July 2014 at our Sefton Goals centre. Adam left high school that summer and immediately started his career in sport. Over the summer he attended a programme that aimed at improving his coaching ability and knowledge of the industry to develop his chances of gaining an Apprenticeship in a school.
After 6 weeks of working with Progress staff Adam started a work placement in Streatham House School Crosby. Adam worked in the school 5 days per week and made a huge impression on staff and pupils. His role in the school varied, from supporting and delivering PE and helping out in the classroom to delivering his own after school clubs. The school was so impressed with Adam they employed him as a Sports Apprentice. Progress delivered a qualification in Activity Leadership to Adam and visited him at his placement regularly to set work and observe him.
Over a 12 month period Adam completed an intermediate apprenticeship and then progressed onto an advanced apprenticeship studying a level 3 in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport. Adams responsibilities in school become greater has he progressed and developed his knowledge of school PE. Adam delivered all PE lessons both practical and theory based and organised sports days and other sports events.
On completion of a 2 year apprenticeship Adam gained full-time employment as the schools PE coordinator. Adam has now worked in his school for over 4 years and will now be moving on to start a new job in a Primary School – In May this year Adam will start his new position as head of PE in Holland Moor Primary school in Skelmersdale.
Progress sports have always kept in contact with Adam as he’s supported other Progress Sports learners in his school, shadowing him and supporting the delivery of school sport. We wish Adam the best of luck in his new role at Holland Moor Primary School.
“During my time at Progress I learnt the fundamentals skills of being a Sports Coach. They gave me the support and guidance I needed when I went into a school setting. They set me up and prepared me for getting a job as a PE teacher in a private school”.
